Maintal Translations, Inc. (/maɪn/-/tɔːl/) provides German to English language translation services and is operated by Kerstin Roland, based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA. Founded in 1998, it has steadily expanded its circle of clients in need of German translators in various industries worldwide.
Growing up in Germany, Kerstin began learning English in 5th grade. Various languages would follow, some of them as mandatory subjects, some of them electives. Kerstin graduated from preparatory school with English and French as her majors.
Because of Kerstin’s love for languages, it was clear to her that she would pursue a career in this field. As her home town of Würzburg offered a fast-track approach in the form of the Fachakademie branch at the Würzburger Dolmetscherschule, her decision was clear.
After graduation Kerstin successfully completed the State Examination for Translators and Interpreters in Bavaria (Bayerische Staatsprüfung für Dolmetscher und Übersetzer).
Shortly thereafter, Kerstin and her husband moved to the United States.
Being under the impression initially that there was no demand for her skills here, Kerstin worked in administrative positions for a while, until a bilingual assistant, and ultimately a bilingual executive assistant position, for a German company in the area rekindled her love for translations.
Having missed the German translation work, Kerstin began to search for agencies to do some work on the side. This took a while, but ultimately she was successful.
Certified German Translators
After gaining considerable additional experience, in 2003 Kerstin completed the ATA accreditation certification.
In 2005, she finally had to make a decision, as her “side work” was taking up the majority of her spare time. Since she had also formed a corporation in the meantime, and in light of an ever growing number of clients, Kerstin decided to take the leap – and has not looked back.
Since English is her second language, Kerstin has a team of experienced proof-readers and the majority of her work performed for direct clients does not leave our office until they have taken a critical look at her translation.
Kerstin also relies on a small but dependable network of experienced colleagues with invaluable expertise to critically review her work and assist her with proofreading, translating and terminology questions.
